Macedonian ancient symbol is a stylized star with circle in the middle and around of it are radially arranged rays with different lengths.
Throughout history, the star has had many meanings, it was a divine symbol but also a symbol of royal power. Due to its divine symbolism, it also had a protective role, so it often appeared on shields and helmets.
The first representations of this symbol were recorded in Mesopotamia around 2500 BC. After the great conquests, Alexander the Great actively promoted a fusion between Macedonian and Persian culture. Exactly in the period of his great conquests, the star appears in Ancient Macedonia and becomes its symbol.
For millennia until today, the Macedonian ancient symbol has remained as a symbol of identity and desire for belonging to the cultural heritage of Ancient Macedonia.
The Macedonian ancient symbol is also known as the Star of Kutles or the Star of Vergina, named after the place where his most famous representation was discovered (the town of Kutlesh or in Greek the town of Vergina).

Returns
